Who May Be a Candidate for SPRAVATO®?

How SPRAVATO® Treatment Works
Treatment begins with a psychiatric evaluation and discussion of your medical history, symptoms, and previous treatments.
If SPRAVATO® is recommended, treatments are administered in our office under medical supervision. Because temporary side effects such as sedation or dissociation may occur, patients are monitored for at least two hours after each treatment session, in accordance with FDA requirements.
Patients should arrange transportation home after treatment, as driving is not permitted until the following day after a restful night’s sleep.
What Is SPRAVATO®?
SPRAVATO® (esketamine) is an FDA-approved prescription nasal spray used in combination with an oral antidepressant for certain adults with treatment-resistant depression. It is also approved for adults with major depressive disorder who have acute suicidal thoughts or behaviors when used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. Unlike traditional antidepressants that may take several weeks to begin working, SPRAVATO® works differently in the brain by targeting the NMDA receptor. Because of this unique mechanism, some patients may experience symptom improvement sooner than with conventional medications, although individual results vary.
